January and February Events
January and February seemed to fly by but they were filled with so many exciting activities and moments at Winlaw Elementary.
The k class was joined by special guest "Snow Crystal" who taught them all about the wildlife in the Slocan Valley and the Kootenays.
Thank you to the Winlaw PAC for putting together a successful Glow dance to help raise funds for initiatives at Winlaw Elementary.
The grade 5/6 students became debaters as they debated between renewable and non-renewable energy sources as a part of their recycling program.
We were very excited to have our Indigenous support teacher Jenna and Lance Ledger join us to teach each class some songs and participate in drumming. The students enjoy any time Ms. Jenna is able to drum and sing with them.
The grade 4/5 class became authors in February! They worked really hard on creating short stories and then they hosted a book launch where they shared their books with their classmates and staff.
For Pink Shirt day the grade 5/6 students presented kindness plays they had been working on to each classroom. The students also picked another students name out of a bin and then they had to do something kind for the student they picked.
To wrap up February we were joined by Virginia who is a hoop dancer from the Cowessess First Nation. She performed for the students and kept everyone very engaged. She even had some of the staff learn some of her hoop dancing moves.
We look forward to carrying the excitement into March.
