Dear Winlaw Families,      

June was filled with many events including the primary and intermediate field trips, Sd8 Truth and Reconciliation Run/Walk on the Slocan Valley Rail Trail, Welcome to Kindergarten Orientation, Bike Safety Rodeo, Tie Dye Day, and Fun Day with the PAC sponsored BBQ. We had a beautiful End of Year Assembly honoring our Gr. 6 graduates who are moving onto Gr. 7 at their respective middle schools.  Ms Block and I thank the Winlaw Staff, students, and families for the lovely retirement celebration for each of us. The students created an incredible film for each of us with thanks and retirement advice!

First Day of School : September 3, 2024 

• Students will return to their previous homeroom class on the first day of school. For example, if your child is CURRENTLY in the Grade 1/2 class, they will line up in their class spot outside the front entrance of the school and go to Ms. Nielson’s class on the first day. 
• Dismissal will be 3 hours early at 11:00 am.
• Families will be emailed in the afternoon with their child’s class placement.

September 4, 2024

• Students will line up with their new teacher outside in the designated class spot at 8:00 am (regular start time).
• Teachers will bring students to their new class. 
• Regular dismissal at 2:00 pm.

Please Note: Class lists may be in flux for the first 2 weeks of school due to late registrations and/or withdrawals. Please allow for flexibility within these first 2 weeks for some potential adjustments to class placements. 

I have been truly honored to be the Principal of Winlaw Elementary School over the past four years ending a wonderful 39-year career in BC public education. New Principal Andre McDowell officially starts on August 1, 2024. I wish Principal McDowell, and each staff member, student, and family of the Winlaw Elementary school community a happy and fun-filled summer and a great start to a new school year in September.
